Very cool. Thank-you. He was in the 40 day campaign in the East. The birth of modern warfare. I love that (para)phrase by Selby Foote about how the '64 Army of NV rolled over the ground like a tide. Immediately seeking the best terrain and fire zones. And the grim dark storm of blue coats as they kept on coming, day after day, everyday south till the siege checkmate. And your grand-alot did all 40 days without getting killed or wounded(amputated) which is a near miracle. (Out of 120K to begin, didn't Grant have 45% causality rate by mid June? Something like that.)
Wow. He even got to take part in the victory march in April '65, and the Grand Review. That was the most kick ass army in the world at that moment.
